In their second home game of the season, the Spartans improved their record to 2-0 by defeating the North Bay Bulldogs 51-6. Even with a strong arm in QB Kaelan Mathon, the Bulldogs could not match number 16 Adam Rocha, who was behind center for the first-time, and the Spartans as they took an early lead in the game and never let up.

With strong running from Josh Cuomo and Matt Glass, and Rocha connecting with multiple receivers throughout the game, there was little the North Bay defence could do. On the other side of the ball the Spartans were just as potent, with a few interceptions and only one touchdown being allowed.

Three and a half minutes into the 1st quarter the Spartans had their first touchdown thanks to Josh Cuomo who forced himself into the endzone.

The Spartans defence then stopped the first Bulldogs drive of the game, after Mathon connected on a good throw to gain some ground.

Facing his first throw, and possibly some first game nerves, Rocha went deep and was intercepted by the Bulldogs defence. This put them on their own 10-yard line. On their next play the Spartans forced a fumble that was recovered by number 8 Andrew St. Amour, making it the 1st and goal for Sudbury.

The North Bay defence held strong on the goal-line, stopping all attempts from Glass and Cuomo, leading to a field goal kick from Massimo Cimino. The kick was good making the score 10-0 for the Spartans.

The 1st quarter was finished out by Cuomo making it into the endzone putting the Spartans up 17-0.

In the 2nd quarter Rocha threw his second and final interception of the game. This set up the Bulldogs’ offence on their 30-yard line. The Spartans defence quickly returned the favor, with number 73 Nathan Rivet intercepting Mathon and running the ball back 40 yards for a pick six. The extra point by Cimino was low and got blocked.

Another interception this time by number 24 Marcus Britt, put the ball back in Spartan hands.

The half would be rounded out with a pair of touchdowns by Sudbury. One with Rocha passing to Nicholas Rideout in the endzone, and another being ran in by Cuomo. Score at the half was 37-0 for Sudbury. The Bulldogs put together a strong drive, but it was cut short by the clock.

The only scoring action in the 3rd quarter was by the Spartans; Cuomo ran in his third touchdown on the day making it 44-0 for the Spartans heading into the 4th quarter.

Mathon put together a good passing drive halfway through the 4th quarter. This led to the first and only Bulldogs touchdown. The extra point fell short and the score was left at 44-6.

Matt Glass went on to score one more rushing touchdown on a wide run, and the game ended 51-6 for the Spartans.

The Spartans will now head out on the road for their next two games. They face the Soo on the 8th and Steel City on the 15th, with their next home game coming on June 22nd where they will host the Soo after facing them on the road.
