(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Sudbury Spartans are pleased to announce they will be adding a third Under-18 Team for the upcoming 2023 season. The Spartans will also continue to run the U16 and Mens programs, alongside the additional team.

“The addition of a U18 team is the natural progression for Spartans football,” said Spartans President Gord Goddard. “We have over 50% of our U16 provincial championship team graduating who are looking to continue their football careers. In addition, we also have a number of senior high school football players looking to play provincial level summer football, so it only makes sense to add the additional team for this upcoming season.”

Alex Vendramin will lead the U18 team as Head Coach. Vendramin has led LoEllen Park to back-to-back City Championships and was an integral part of our U16 Provincial Championship last summer where he served as the offensive coordinator. The U18 team is expected to be competitive out of the gate.

“We have had this vision for Spartan football for a quite some time,” added Goddard. “As it stands now – players can enter our Spartan program at 15-16 years of age and become a Spartan for life. They play on the U16 and U18 teams and then eventually graduate to the Men’s NFC team. We have developed a formula for success at the U16 level and we will apply it at the U18 level.”

The U18 team is presented by SWSE along with our strong community partners Technica Mining and Anmar Mechanical who have ensured a successful launch of the U18 program.

“SWSE is super excited to be adding this additional team this summer,” said SWSE CEO and Owner, Dario Zulich. “My family and I are strong supporters of Football in the Sudbury community and are very excited to be able to grow the program with the tremendous help of the Grossi family as our outstanding community partners.”
